For those that are sick of being locked into a TV package to get internet, a new 5G wireless service has launched in Denver offering no long-term contracts or hidden fees.

Boston-based Starry announced this week that it has launched its 5G fixed wireless broadband in Denver; its fifth market in the U.S. Starry first launched in Boston in 2016, before expanding to Los Angeles, D.C. and New York City.

Starry prides itself on offering high-speed internet access with no TV bundles, no contracts and no-data caps for $50 per month. Users get 200 Mbps plan speeds with installation, customer service and equipment included in the cost.

“When internet service providers compete, the winners will be the Coloradans who get a say in choosing what internet provider they bring into their home,” Starry Denver General Manager Stephan Andrade said in a statement. “At Starry, we pride ourselves on always putting the customer first. From sign-up to installation to ongoing customer care, our priority is providing world-class technology and service to all our customers. That includes a commitment to no data caps, strict privacy rules and an adherence to net neutrality. We’re passionate about building better, more affordable internet access and we’re excited to bring Starry to Denver and beyond.”

In addition to the five cities it's already in, Starry is building its network in 17 additional markets including: Chicago, Cleveland, Houston, Dallas, Seattle, Detroit, Atlanta, Indianapolis, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Miami, Memphis, Phoenix and Minneapolis, as well as Manchester, N.H.; Portland, O.R.; and Sioux Falls, S.D.

To build its network, Starry mounts its antennas - called "Starry Beams" - on radio towers and skyscrapers to transmit internet across a city, using one antenna to cover a neighborhood. From there, receivers pick up the signal from the Starry Beam and plug into the building’s existing wiring to deliver internet to the router in your home.

Currently, Starry is available in select apartment buildings and neighborhoods across Denver. To see if Starry is available in your area, check out the company's website here.
