Boulder-based Automox, a cyber hygiene platform startup, announced Tuesday that it has raised $30 million in Series B funding.

The round was led by Koch Disruptive Technologies, with participation from CRV and CrowdStrike, which is investing through the Falcon Fund in partnership with Accel. Koch Disruptive Technologies, a subsidiary of Koch Industries, previously led Ibotta's Series D that gave the Denver-based company a $1 billion valuation.

Automox will use the capital to accelerate feature development for its platform and expand its sales and marketing teams to support its growing enterprise customer base. The round brings Automox’s total funding to $42 million.

Automox’s cloud-native platform enables security and IT teams to automate the fundamentals of endpoint hardening. The platform improves cyber resilience through foundational system hardening by automating the enforcement of critical patches, software updates, security configurations and custom scripting across diverse endpoint environments.

Automox’s CEO and founder Jay Prassl said the 80-person company founded in 2015 will continue growing and hiring in Boulder following this round.

"Boulder is a wonderful place to build a company, and we continue to enjoy being in the heart of downtown. So much so that we have added a second location to accommodate our growth," he told Colorado Inno.

In 2020, the company expects to hire 40 to 50 new people across a variety of roles in Boulder and across the country.

"We have a remote work culture and want to bring the Automox experience to great employees wherever they are, not the other way around," Prassl said.

Automox's security solution is used by a variety of customers, from NASA and Xerox to Dollar Shave Club and Hootsuite.

As the company grows and adds customers, Prassl said the company will continue to follow a balanced growth model, considering sales velocity, R&D and marketing investments to determine the next move.

"Automox is addressing one of the most pervasive threats in cybersecurity better than any other company today," he said. "Staying true to that mission and our values has served us very well and has enabled us to attract an incredibly gifted team and a growing customer base. A great team working on a hard long standing problem in security is at the heart of our work."
