See what promising Dayton startups are competing for funding in 2023's Flyer Pitch Competition

A new year means a new batch of regional-based startups looking to make their mark on the community. To make a big splash, startups are looking to score some big cash at the wrap-up of a well-known pitch competition in the entrepreneurial community.

The University of Dayton’s Flyer Pitch Competition is approaching its completion later this spring. The competition takes place over five months from October to April in three phases. This year’s finalists have recently been announced by category.

The final round of the Flyer Pitch Competition will take place on Saturday, April 22.  In 2022, $150,000 in cash and in-kind prizes were awarded. 

Here are the 2022-2023 Flyer pitch Competition Finalists:

ESP/Tech Track

Unlisted – The tech startup presents a new opportunity to start conversations about property plans among neighbors, allowing homeowners, homebuyers and real estate agents to tap into the property market before a house is officially “for sale.”

WakEDriveA startup offering a complete motor, battery, control, and integration solution to boat manufacturers as well as an aftermarket modification for existing boat owners. This integrated solution takes full advantage of the benefits of an electric drive to give a perfect boating experience.

ISquared Learning Solutions – Planning to sell interactive and inclusive STEM-focused storybooks, workbooks, and textbooks that are accompanied by a free downloadable mobile app. The mobile app will use Augmented Reality (AR) to bring the 2-dimensional story and math concepts to full 3D form, with characters that the reader can modify to represent themselves and their communities. The startup works to harness the power of interactive, inclusion, and storytelling to help children appreciate and understand math.

Saga Surgical Solutions LLC – Producer of SwiftStitch, an automatic suture medical device to merge the reliable seal of sutures with the efficiency of staplers to improve anastomoses.

CJD Innovations LLC – A limited liability company created to design and develop innovative products for a wide range of consumer needs. CJD Innovation’s flagship product, the Wet Wipe Wizard, is a US patented device which automatically dispenses wet wipes. 

Main Street Track

Care Task LLCBaby Boomers represent the 2nd largest population group in the US, making up nearly 70 million people between the ages of 58 and 76. Care Task LLC has served 150 seniors with NEMT and home health services in three surrounding Counties. The startup has provided non-medical emergency transportation for 1.5 years with a nearly 100% satisfaction rate.

Haya Healing – HAYA, coming from an Arabic word which means life-giving, was created to help community members and professionals heal and elevate the mind, body, and spirit utilizing a natural and holistic approach.

Empowering to Elevate Inc. – An organization based around providing educational facilities with the tools needed to tackle mental health challenges from within. The company provides school-based, out-patient, day treatment and telehealth services as well as coping skills for developmental and mental health challenges.

Traveling Pendants – Handcrafting pendants, designed to be worn every day to inspire strength and encourage connection. Wearing and sharing a Traveling Pendant is meant to express "I see you, and I want you to always remember you're never alone."

Taste T Love Baby FoodProvider of a healthier, fresh baby food option to mothers who might want to make their own without the time, patience or know-how.

Nonprofit Track

The Well for Wellness – a wellness center in Kettering, Ohio, specializing in whole-person nutrition and care for women, babies and young children.

Extraordinary Men Mentorship Group – Providing young men ages 5-15 an environment that promotes spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical well-being and development by combining real world scenarios with educational and stimulating activities.

Turtle UpThe startup aims to develop ecotourism to provide resources to support increasing awareness for sea turtles, generating revenues to fund conservation operations and research, as well as creating a viable tourist industry which will benefit the local economy by providing jobs and resources for education, health & human services, and other elements of an improved standard of living. Profits from Turtle Up will be redistributed in the community to build needed infrastructures such as schools, medical facilities, community centers, and roads.

The Blooming CircleThe Blooming Circle is a digital health and wellness advocacy education and navigation system. It is designed to create and maintain inclusive communities of care to be utilized by medical, health, and wellness providers, and Black, Indigenous and Women of Color seeking care in the Greater Dayton community. It is called the Blooming Circle because the goal is to grow (bloom) the number of people and resources dedicated to advocacy for women of color.

Youth House – Planning to offer a third shift childcare service with a focus on serving minority and low-income families around Dayton. Local businesses/organizations will be able to use the main spaces and office space during the daytime when the building is not being used for third shift childcare.
