Twelve local startup companies pitched for one of two $5,000 prizes to infuse into their business at Monday night’s Launch Dayton Startup Week Pitch Competition.

The competition’s two categories were innovation/technology-based and Main Street, with six companies competing in each.

Bailout Systems and Tumble each took home $5,000 to invest in their business.

Bailout Systems’ owner, Michael Ragsdale pitched his safety equipment which allows for a quick and hands-free exit for firefighters and rescues whether the wearer is conscious or not. Ragsdale, a veteran in the United States Navy, said fall protection gear has one of the lowest compliance rates in any industry due to its weight, cost and training requirement. The Bailout Systems team is currently working to share its product with military markets.

Tumble LLC’s co-owners Jeffrey Caldwell and Charles Wheeler, both under 25 years old, created an on-demand laundry and dry-cleaning service which aims to give clients their time back.
