Plano environmental firm Blue Tide announces new hydrotreater at Baytown facility

Plano-based environmental company Blue Tide Environmental has reached a final investment decision to add a hydrotreater to its Baytown facility, a press release announced.

Adding a hydrotreater will allow the facility to become a full base oils recycling operation and process third-party vacuum gas oils into Group II+ base oils. The plant will produce up to 5,000 barrels per day and will offer the option to upgrade production to Group III base oils.

“Our mission is to provide the most reliable and highest performing, sustainably sourced base oils in the market,” Mark Bouldin, Blue Tide CEO, said in the release. “We are pleased with our significant progress toward the completion of the facility redesign, and we are confident in our long-term ability to scale our platform.”

Located along the Houston ship channel, the facility will also feature additional storage, processing infrastructure and a dock that provides access to rail and transload facilities.

Founded in 1980, Blue Tide Environmental is a company that develops used motor oil recycling facilities across North America.

In January, Blue Tide announced a joint investment with Dallas-based equity firm Tailwater Capital to provide financial and operational support to a waste-to-product manufacturer, WM Organic Growth — a subsidiary of Houston-based Waste Management Inc.
