Big or small, a business needs space. The North Texas area is no stranger to co-working digs, with more than 3.4 million square-feet of space taken up by local companies and nationally-known places like WeWork.

One of the first to open in the new year will be Dallas-based Common Desk’s location at the Trammel Crow Center in downtown Dallas on January 2. The company, founded in 2012, promises on its site that it will “change the industry standard” for the co-working spaces.

“We are so excited to show y'all what we've done,” Common Desk wrote in a Twitter post.

The DFW region is host to more than 80 co-working locations. Common Desk announced plans to begin development on the 2001 Ross Ave. location in August 2018, making it the 5th location for the company.

The Crow Center co-working space will take up the 7th and 8th floors of the building, with more than 52,000 square-feet of space. At the time of the announcement, Common Desk said the Crow location would be distinct from others in that it would showcase highly-serviced, luxury enterprise suites, catering to companies with between 15 to 75 employees.

“For the past 12 months we’ve been working on new elevated experiences within our spaces,” said Nick Clark, founder and CEO of Common Desk, in a blog post. “We want our customers to get a level of service that is on par with luxury high-end boutique hotels.”

Another feature making the location unique for the co-working company will be the inclusion of a private whiskey lounge. Common Desk has an operating agreement with Trammel Crow Center owners J.P Morgan Asset Management, with a partnership with locally-based Stream Realty Partners.

The company operates co-working spaces in DFW, Austin and Houston. Earlier this month, Common Desk announced its first location outside of the Lone Star State, with a 65,000 square-foot location in Raleigh, N.C. The announcement came on the heels of the company’s first funding round, led by Coppell-based VARIDESK.

“This location is truly going to change the industry standard for coworking, bringing elevated workspace and amenities at an affordable price to professionals of all kinds,” Common Desk wrote in a blog post.

As of September of this year, the DFW Metroplex was ranked as the fifth-largest co-working market in the country, with more than 3.4 million square-feet of office space taken up. The region is only outranked by sprawling metros such as Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York City. In all, North Texas is host to a number of co-working companies, including Venture X, Spaces and WorkSuites.
