Texas is known for its open skies, sprawling cities and its friendly residents. Next month, one nonprofit will be looking to harness that last resource and use tech to give back and support the community.

In the 48 hours between Oct. 18-20, 48in48, a nonprofit that seeks to connect local tech talent to other area nonprofits, will help build 48 websites for 48 different groups in a hackathon-style event. The organization is currently looking for volunteers to participate and nonprofits in North Texas to support at its event in Addison.

Carole Williams, a 48in48 representative told Atlanta Inno that the websites built for the nonprofits are worth about $25,000 each.

“One of the things I love about nonprofits is they spend their time doing good, not looking good,” said 48in48 cofounder Adam Walker in explanatory video of the event.

At the event, websites will be built using WordPress, so even if you don’t know coding, you can still participate. 48in48 also needs teams to have project and content managers, marketers, and designers to help build the websites. And for those with no tech knowledge, volunteers are also needed to run the event, including set up and breakdown, running registration, and making sure everything runs smoothly.

Not all the work can be done in 48 hours. Before the hackathon, selected nonprofits will participate in six to 10 weeks of training in marketing, branding and impact training. After the event, 48in48 will need a ‘clean-up team’ to make finishing touches to the websites created and help with things like overhauls and site migration.

“We believe in improving society through skills based on volunteerism, education and service and we do it using the heart and talent of marketing and technology professionals,” Walker said in a press release.

From October through the beginning of next year, 48in48 will be hosting events across the country and across the pond. Future event dates and locations are listed below:

  • New York City: Oct. 4-6
  • Raleigh/Durham: Oct. 4-6
  • Dallas: Oct. 18-20 (14841 Dallas Pkwy. 8th Addison, Tx. 75254)
  • Boston: Oct. 25-2
  • London: Early November
  • Super Service Miami: Jan. 24-26
