Texas is quickly making a name for itself as a hub for startups and innovative ideas. Dallas-based Mountain Health is bringing a little bit of Lone Star flare to the Midwest, as it joins the inaugural cohort of UnitedHealthcare’s Techstars Accelerator in Minneapolis.

Along with nine other companies, the cohort’s focus is on using tech to improve access, quality, costs and gaps in the healthcare market.

Mountain Health was started this year, and led by CEO Kobby Amoah. The company offers subscription-based primary healthcare to clients with a network of care centers and clinics around the Dallas area.

According to Matt Miller, who is leading the accelerator, hundreds of startups from 33 different countries were interviewed for the cohort. The accelerator program lasts three months and provides mentorship, capital, and research and development assistance, and culminates with a demo day attended by regional and national venture firms. Techstars, a network of global accelerators, was founded in Boulder in 2006 and has incubated over 1,900 startups that have raised $7.6 billion in funding since its inception.

“Combining technical innovation, clinical expertise and evidence-based guidance from UnitedHealthcare with entrepreneurial expertise from Techstars will enable these 10 startups to create a ripple throughout the modern healthcare ecosystem,” Miller said.

Founded in 1977, UnitedHealthcare is based out of Minnetonka, Mn. The healthcare giant recorded more than $226B in revenue in 2018.
