Green Circle Growers and PartsSource were approved on Monday for Ohio Job Creation Tax Credits worth $2.2 million.

The estimated value of the potential tax credits is $1.7 million for Oberlin, Ohio-based Green Circle Growers and $500,000 for Aurora, Ohio-based PartsSource, said Lisa Colbert, a spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Development.

The tax credits provide a refundable credit against a taxpayer's Commercial Activity Tax, insurance premium tax, Ohio corporate franchise tax or an individual's Ohio personal income tax obligations, Colbert said.

These are not actual tax credits but estimated values of potential tax credits if all elements approved by the Ohio Tax Credit Authority are met, she said.

Green Circle Growers

One of the largest floriculture operations in North America with more than 120 acres of greenhouses in Cambden Township, Green Circle plans to add 250 jobs to its current staff of more than 900 — representing $15 million a year in new payroll — according to Team NEO, the economic development organization in Cleveland.

Already one of Lorain County's largest employers, the company, has been approved for a 1.6%, eight-year tax credit, according to the Department of Development.

The jobs will be created at Green Circle Growers and its related companies, Express Seed and Fresh2U Transportation & Logistics, the Oberlin-area company said in a Team NEO press release.

The company also plans to invest in growing technology.

The expansion is necessary to accommodate rising demand for its ornamental plants, such as orchids, and other nursery products, the company said.

"Not only are we expanding our facilities and growing capabilities by 30 acres, but we also are growing our team," said C.J. van Wingerden, Green Circle's co-CEO, in Team NEO's release.

Jobs created by the expansion include several at the executive level, including a mix of operations, IT, senior leadership, administrative and management, van Wingerden said.

PartsSource Inc.

The online marketplace for medical equipment maintenance parts and services in Aurora, plans to add 99 jobs to more than double its workforce, Team NEO said.

"The commitment and caliber of available talent in our area is critical to deliver the company’s next phase of innovation and growth," said Robert Sanchez, chief human resources officer at PartsSource, in a second Team NEO release.

PartsSource, a B2B marketplace for medical technology replacement parts and services and the largest B2B online marketplace in U.S. healthcare, was approved for a 1.3%, eight-year tax credit for its plan to create $5.6 million in annual payroll, according to the company and the Department of Development.

In July, PartsSource was acquired by Bain Capital Private Equity of Boston for an undisclosed price.

The city of Aurora, Portage Development Board, Ohio Department of Development, JobsOhio and Team NEO worked with company executives to keep PartsSource in Aurora, the Department of Development said.

PartsSource was founded in 2001 in Aurora by A. Ray Dalton.

A serial entrepreneur, Dalton sold PartsSource to Great Hill Partners in 2017 and now is founder and executive chairman of a set of organizations related to reLink Medical, the technology-based medical equipment liquidation and disposition company in Twinsburg Township.
