Lordstown Motors Corp. has named John Whitcomb as its new vice president, global commercial operations, effective June 21.
The Lordstown electric truck maker (Nasdaq: RIDE) said that Whitcomb, in the newly created position, will be responsible for "driving the company’s overall go-to-market strategy ahead of the start of production of the Lordstown Endurance in late-September 2021" and "will develop the strategic business model for Lordstown Motors’ sales and service footprint, working alongside the team to establish a national sales network."
Whitcomb joins at a turbulent time in Lordstown's history
On Sunday, CEO Steve Burns, founder, chief executive officer and chairman, and Julio Rodriguez, chief financial officer, resigned. The company had been accused of misleading investors and said it was running low on funding.
Burns and Rodriguez were replaced by Angela Strand, who was appointed executive chairwoman until a permanent CEO is named. Becky Roof was named interim CFO. Rick Schmidt remains president of the company.
Yesterday, the company received a bit of good news when Schmidt told a news conference hosted by the Detroit-based Automotive Press Association that the company has enough cash to last through at least May 2022 and he added that the company had "firm" and "binding" orders on an unspecified number of vehicles.
