CookinGenie, the cooking network based in Hudson, Ohio, has landed a $2 million seed investment from Allison Wood Ventures in Houston.

CookinGenie connects clients to personal chefs on a per-event basis, the company said in a statement.

CookinGenie co-founders Sabah Drabu and Abhijit Ganguly want to change the perception of personal chefs.

"Most people think personal chefs are only for celebrities, but we wanted to create a marketplace where anyone can find and book a talented chef in their area in minutes," Drabu said in her company's statement.

CookinGenie enables clients to hire a personal chef — or "genie" — for an event. Clients choose from a menu of available meals and schedule a date and time. Their genie does the rest, from shopping and meal prep to cooking and cleaning up, the company said.

"CookinGenie's team identified a need, created a game-changing solution, and is currently customizing and scaling the business to ensure success," said Allison Wood, founder and CEO of Allison Wood Ventures, in the company's statement.
