Cleveland medical technology startup wins Ohio Third Frontier funding

Ceraxis Health in Cleveland on Tuesday was approved to receive a $150,000 technology validation and startup grant from the Ohio Third Frontier program.

The grant is aimed at helping Ceraxis develop and commercialize a symptom tracking system for people living with Parkinson’s disease, the Ohio Department of Development said in a press release.

In all, the Ohio Third Frontier Commission approved $850,000 in funding for six medical technology companies in the state.

Ohio has long been a leader in developing medical technologies, said Lydia Mihalik, director of the Ohio Development Department and chair of the Ohio Third Frontier Commission, in the release.

"These advancements will help doctors and researchers improve lives and patient outcomes," Mihalik said.

The Ceraxis technology enables physicians to better manage Parkinson's treatment, according to the release.

Zach Eisen, a principal at Cleveland Clinic Innovations, sits on the Ceraxis board, according to the innovation unit's website.

Eisen and his team work to create, develop and finance startup companies that leverage the ideas, expertise and resources of Cleveland Clinic.
