A precision medicine company founded just four years ago has unveiled plans to more than triple its headcount in Mason amid significant business growth.

Mira Precision Health will add 29 new jobs and $2.79 million in new payroll over the next three years and expand into 9,000 square feet of additional space in the Mason Tech Elevator at 5155 Financial Way, according to a media release.

Mira, which currently employs 12, offers rapid-turnaround disease testing, focusing particularly, though not exclusively, on underserved rural and urban communities.

The company's proprietary software integrates marketing, patient management, diagnostic lab testing, electronic medical records, insurance verification and medical billing for health care providers and independent pharmacies.

Much of its expanded headquarters will consist of clinical lab space and research and development facilities. It expects to invest around $810,000 in renovation work and other fixed assets for the expansion.

The expanded space is necessary as Mira supports new partner contracts with pharmacy networks and state departments of health, according to the release.

Mira was founded as Mobility Health in 2020 by Sandra Gunselman, a doctor of cellular and molecular biology and a veteran of Assurex Health and Myriad Neuroscience, another startup founded in Mason.

“I experienced first-hand the commitment the City of Mason has for helping bioscience companies get off the ground and grow, and I wanted that same experience for my own company,” Gunselman said in the release. “Mason has created a very attractive and positive business climate.”

The company began operations in 200 square feet of space in the Mason Tech Elevator, a startup incubator that offers financial structure and continuous scalability for tech and bioscience companies.

“Mira has the diversity of science and innovation that is the perfect partner to the city’s mission of growing a curated precision health corridor,” Michele Blair, Mason director of economic development, said in the release. “Their partnership is growing the exposure for our bio health value proposition nationally and internationally.”

The Ohio Tax Credit Authority on Aug. 15 approved a 1.359%, seven-year Job Creation Tax Credit for Mira's expansion.

The OTCA project scope noted Ohio competed for the project with Alabama and North Carolina.

JobsOhio is also providing $100,000 to Mira in an economic development grant.
