Women continue to make up a growing portion of Cincinnati's tech workforce, lifting the Queen City into the No. 9 spot for women in tech, according to a new ranking.
Financial website SmartAsset recently ranked cities nationwide to determine which were best for women in tech. Cincinnati ranked No. 9 on the list, beating the national average for both women as a percentage of the workforce and the gender pay gap.
Nationally, women make up 26.1% of tech workers and earn 84% of what men do, according to SmartAsset. In Cincinnati, women make up 30.5% of the workforce and earn 91.9% of what men do.
Cincinnati was the only Ohio city to rank within the top 10 and the only Midwestern city within those ranks. Chicago was the nearest Midwestern city to appear on the list, finishing No. 22. Meanwhile, Columbus tied for the No. 45 spot. There, women make up 23.6% of the workforce, earning 83.4% what men do.
Arlington, Va. topped the list, with its neighboring city Washington, D.C., coming in second.
