A Cincinnati company that helps users plan off-the-beaten-path trips with friends has hit a key membership metric as travel interest grows amid the pandemic.
Roadtrippers, a road trip planning tool and Togo Group brand, recently surpassed five million members, the company said. Roadtrippers, one the city’s more recognizable startup success stories, said the growth has been driven by the continued interest in road-based travel.
"The milestone reflects our passion for developing trip discovery and planning tools that create value for our users," Togo Group CEO Danny Hest said in a release. "We're creating the premier set of tools to inspire and enable the entire recreational travel experience by road."
Roadtrippers offers features to support unique experiences — from weekend road trips to longer RV adventures. The company has rolled out several recent additions, including:
- Roadpass, a universal secure account login, that makes it easier for RVers and members from other Togo Group apps to plan their next Roadtrippers adventure. Togo Group brands also include Campendium, Overnight RV Parking,
- EV charging station information within the app, a nod to the increased adoption of electric vehicles
- RV-friendly routing tools including vehicle dimensions, safety alerts and route avoidances.
- And a new map filter that highlights mix and match categories like offbeat attractions and campgrounds that can fit a big rig, which help make planning road trips easier, Roadtrippers said.
Roadtrippers, formerly backed by CincyTech, was acquired in 2018 by Elkhart, Ind.-based RV maker Thor Industries (NYSE: THO), when Thor formed a new joint venture, Togo Group. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Since launching in 2012, Roadtrippers has helped its users plan more than 25 million trips covering more than 8 billion miles.
The company is headquartered in Over-the-Rhine.
