A Washington, D.C.-based organization recruited to Cincinnati by Kroger Co. is gearing up for its local pitch competition.

Black Girl Ventures, which aims to give minority, female entrepreneurs access to capital, has launched applications for its local pitch competition in November.

According to its website, the live competition will be voted on by viewers using the platform Raisify, which allows audiences to vote with their dollars. However, the person with the most votes, not dollars, wins.

In February, Black Girl Ventures received a $500,000 grant from Kroger and used that money to fund its Cincinnati launch, though that wasn't a requirement of receiving the funds. The organization, founder Shelly Bell previously told the Business Courier, was already researching Cincinnati for expansion and had been working Mortar during that process.

Black Girl Ventures also operates an incubator and accelerator in some of its other markets. Currently, Black Girl Ventures is in 13 cities, including Cincinnati.
