A Greater Cincinnati tech firm has acquired a local competitor as it looks to bolster one of its key service offerings.

Intrust IT, a Blue Ash-based IT support and cybersecurity company, acquired Mason’s Reliance Technology Solutions, effective Aug. 1. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The transaction marks Intrust IT’s third acquisition of 2021. Coupled with its recent hiring push, the company has increased its employee count by 69% this year.

The expansion with Reliance Technology allows Intrust to grow its cybersecurity offering and better serve employees working remotely, Tim Rettig, Intrust IT founder, said.

“We are seeing an increase in business due to the need for companies of all sizes to improve their cybersecurity,” Rettig said in a release. “We are also finding companies need our services more than ever to keep employees productive and secure when working from home. With this merger, we have increased our capability to meet those needs.”

Based in Mason, Reliance was founded in 2004 by Mark and Nicole Haake and served small- and medium-sized businesses.

Current Reliance employees will join the Intrust IT team at Intrust’s Blue Ash offices. Intrust did not say how many that includes.

Intrust has had a busy year. Effective Jan. 1, it finalized a deal to buy Blue Ash-based Hard Warehouse Technologies, which has offered hardware and software sales and computer repair services in the region since 1980.

In July, the company also purchased a key division from Afidence, another Mason-based tech consulting and services firm, taking over its managed IT services, which included 10 full-time employees.

Intrust, founded in 1992, primarily serves small and medium-sized businesses in the region in the manufacturing, financial, government and education sectors. In 2019, Intrust IT became employee-owned through an employee stock ownership plan, or ESOP.

Reliance employees transitioning to the company will be eligible to participate in the plan.
