One of the region's most recognizable startups is continuing to expand its reach after striking a new deal with an Indian transportation firm.
Over-the-Rhine-based Lisnr's technology is now being used by Shuttl, which bills itself as the largest office commute provider in India, according to a news release. Lisnr's technology with allow Shuttl to offer contactless boarding for customers.
The new partnership marks another win for Lisnr, one of the region's best-funded startups that counts Visa and Intel among its major backers. Earlier this year, the company announced CodeZero, a tech company based Malaysia, was using Lisnr's technology to power its digital business card.
"Shuttl is the premier office shuttle service in all of India," Lisnr CEO Eric Allen said in a statement. "They very much understood the importance of ultrasonic as an invaluable means of touchless authentication. We're excited to partner with them as they continue to expand their international footprint."
Shuttl operates more than 1,300 buses and more than 350 routes in nine cities in India and other countries, the release states. It's backed by Amazon, Toyota and famed Silicon Valley investor Sequoia Capital, among others.
Lisnr, founded in 2012, has created technology that allows it to transmit data quickly and securely using ultrasonic tones. It works like a key that is randomly generated, tied uniquely to the person who is holding it and disappears immediately after it's used. The company's biggest initiative centers on contactless payments that work from a distance — which its leaders believe creates limitless possibilities for the company in a post-Covid world.
