Market intelligence organization EdTech Breakthrough has named Cincinnati-based Abre.io "edtech startup of the year" in its first-ever EdTech Breakthrough Awards program.

Abre, a “single online platform allowing you to spend less time jumping through hoops and more time teaching students,” looks to serve teachers, parents and children alike. So far, it found its home in more than 240 schools and 38 school systems, and its work helped it beat out more than 1,500 nominations in over 12 countries to take the EdTech Breakthrough program's top spot.

The program looks to "honor excellence and recognize the innovation, hard work and success in a range of educational technology categories, including student engagement, school administration ... and many more," a release states.

Abre's unique technology and "promising" momentum helped the company win.

“What sets this company apart from the competition is the Abre Hub and their suite of connected applications," said James Johnson, managing director at EdTech Breakthrough. "Abre represents a significant step towards streamlining the vast amount of educational technology software used in the classroom. By making software easier to manage, distribute and use, this frees up time for administrators and teachers to focus on their students.”

Damon Ragusa, Abre's CEO, spoke to the future of the company after the win.

“We look forward to continued partnerships with hundreds of schools around the country, bringing them 21st century software solutions that will provide greater efficiency for teachers and administrators, and a better learning experience for students," he said.

Editor's Note: Abre was one of Cincy Inno's inaugural 50 on Fire award winners in 2018.
