Event Alert: Cincinnati Examines Human Capital

Losing jobs to automation — and how humans will fit into the future job market — is a hot topic.

It's no wonder why, considering the statistics in a report by the McKinsey Global Institute.

“We estimate that adapting currently demonstrated technology has the technical potential to automate roughly 50 percent of the world’s current work activities,” the report states. “While the date at which this could happen could be around 2055, assuming all the factors are in place for successful adoption by then, we modeled possible scenarios where that level of adoption occurs up to almost 20 years earlier or later.”

Then, there's questions around how to embrace new advances as they develop in the meantime.

“As technology evolves, our workforce leadership has several paths to increase productivity, achieve growth and build their future workforce,” explained David Hollabaugh, product director of Spry Labs at Cintrifuse. "Organizations are faced with trade-offs for investment: process automation, training and development and recruiting outside talent.”

The conversation is coming to Cincinnati on Jan. 17 during the Tech Frontier Series at Cintrifuse, which will be held in collaboration with Refinery Ventures. Speakers include Dan Khublall, senior director, Thomson Reuters; Matt Thompson, head of human resources, The Kroger Company; Paaras Parker, Chief People Officer, The Kroger Company; Darren Baldwin, director of organizational transformation, Midmark Corporation; Justin Hendrix, vice president, Fifth Third Bank; and John Bentley II, chief technology officer, 10XTS.

Together, along with participating startups, they'll discuss the future of automation, the importance of building diverse teams, and topics pertinent to the training, development and hiring of outside talent.

“Yes, this is the first 'Human Capital Challenge' [event], but it is also a part of our larger Tech Frontier Event Series that we run at Cintrifuse,” Hollabaugh said. “The Tech Frontier Series is the culmination of Cintrifuse's network. We leverage outside thought leaders to come in and discuss thought-provoking topics for the keynote, have a BigCo panel of peers discussing their opportunities and successes in the space, and then highlight multiple technology startups innovating at the "'rontier' of the event focus."

Hollabaugh noted that the event has a national impact with thought leaders coming in from all around the country.

“This event brings in speakers and startups from both coasts, like Silicon Valley and New York, and showcases their innovations alongside local startups like tilr, Cloverleaf, Coterie, and Weeve,” he said. “It is a great highlight on #StartupCincy and how we are advancing technology in the HR tech space."
