The University of Cincinnati has announced a competition for students.
Set for this weekend (Nov. 3-4), the Innovation Challenge looks to engage college students to create an "everyday-use app" at the 1819 Innovation Hub.
It works like this: Participants will be part of teams with "mentors and coaches" to establish the app, from a brainstorm stage to something that they can pitch. The goal, according to a UC press release, is to provide students an opportunity to "demonstrate their critical-thinking skills, leadership, teamwork, and public-speaking abilities."
Winners of the Innovation Challenge are determined by their pitches. The first place prize is $2,500; second, $1,500; and third (audience choice), $500.
The event boasts a panel of judges, including Cincinnati Bell President & CEO Leigh Fox, Chief Culture Officer Christi Cornette and Chief Operating Officer Tom Simpson; Fusion Alliance Director of Digital Solutions Marty Samples; and Curiosity Advertising CEO Matt Fischer. Their three companies additionally sponsored the challenge.
“This event demonstrates the value of Cincinnati Bell’s collaborative relationship with the University of Cincinnati and its students,” said Kevin Murray, senior vice president and chief information officer at Cincinnati Bell. “This is another important step in our efforts to establish and maintain a pipeline of technical talent between UC and Cincinnati Bell.”
