SMS Assist, the Chicago-based tech company that makes a property management platform, is opening a second office in the suburbs that can hold up to 400 employees.

The new office in the western suburb of Naperville will mostly house customer service roles at first, though the company says it will be hiring for other positions in the future. SMS Assist says it chose Naperville because of the area’s reputation for having a highly-educated population. The company has already begun hiring for the new office and plans to open it in October with about 30 workers, according to Crain’s.

“Our success is driven by our people,” said SMS Assist CEO Taylor Rhodes in a statement. “They’re the reason we’re here today. This new office allows us to continue creating opportunities for the team while also strengthening what’s already the best customer service in the industry.”

SMS Assist, considered one of Chicago’s “unicorn” tech companies, has raised more than $255 million in funding and is valued at $1 billion. Originally founded in 1995, SMS Assist makes a cloud-based platform that helps property managers maintain multiple buildings by tracking maintenance orders, providing instant invoicing, automatic service audits and data analysis on properties.

Globally, SMS Assist employs more than 800 people, most of which are at its downtown Chicago headquarters at 875 N. Michigan Ave.
