A Chicago Startup is Building the Country's First Emission Free Food Truck

Ready for some juicy gossip? A Chicago organic juice and smoothie startup is building the country's first emission-free food truck.

Herb-N-Juice is an eco-friendly mobile juice truck, blending fresh, organic produce with natural supplements. This week, the startup launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise addition capital for its truck, a completely customized electric golf cart that has a 1,100 lb. towing capacity.

Starting with the golf cart, the Herb-N-Juice team then built a zero-emission mobile kitchen that attaches to the back. Everything in the kitchen, including its refrigerator and slow-juicing appliances, is powered by harnessing raw battery power that's fed through an inverter. (The entire juicing operation runs on under 10,000 watts of continuous power).

And because the cart will remain stationary for extended amounts of time, especially while parked outside of gyms or at festivels, the kitchen's roof is also installed with solar panels to convert sunshine into additional renewable energy for the appliances. The startup has designed and customized every element of the cart, kitchen, and utensil in order to end up with the country's first emission free food truck.

Though this truck makes the most sense for the spring and summer, if it's up-and-running before the snow has melted, the startup will cater directly to fitness centers, yoga studios, and corporate offices.

The campaign has launched with a crowdfunding goal of $20k and it ends on 2/21; incentives for backers include stickers, mason jars, t-shirts, herb-and-juice cleanses, and a custom party. With already over $50k invested into the company, the Herb-N-Juice is using the Kickstarter page to simply expedite its completion.
