This Portable Charger Wants to Make Sure You're Phone Doesn't Die On the Go

Face it; your phone's battery life often falls short of what you need from it. But rather than carrying an extra power cord and running to the nearest wall outlet when your phone's out of juice, a Chicago startup wants to give you portable power for your smartphone when you're on the go.

The Reeljuice is a backup charger for your phone that has a 48-inch long retractable cord to help keep your device charged and untangled. Designed by 1871-based Lynktec, the Reeljuice can charge your phone up to six times and claims to be the world’s first backup battery with a fully retractable industrial grade cord, according to its newly launched Kickstarter. The crowdfunding camping looks to raise $78,000 by December 15 to manufacture the device.

"With today's busy on-the-go lifestyles, our mobile devices are the essential link to navigating the world around us while staying in contact with all the important people in our lives," the Kickstarter reads. "Having sufficient portable power is indispensable - simply put - if you lose your power, you quickly lose contact with the world around you."

The Reeljuice comes in two different options, a 3X battery recharge and a 6X battery recharge model. The smaller version goes for $59 and the larger runs $89 on the Kickstarter.

"Our Reeljuice design was inspired by the road warriors on our team that have spent years traveling with way too many cords and battery packs.  We knew there had to be a better way.  After months of gathering critical market feedback, Reeljuice has evolved into the ultimate all-in-one charging solution."

The company expects to ship the devices to Kickstarter backers by April 2015.
