Chicago's RagLite is the World's First Flexible LED Light

Whether it's on a movie set, in the dentist's office, or out camping in the wilderness, having a lightweight and portable light source would be a serious luxury.

Enter the RagLite, a Chicago-made product and the world's first fabric-mounted, flexible LED light. The RagLite is made from flexible LED light strips that are sewn into fabric, is water-resistant, and virtually indestructible, the company says. On Thursday, RagLite launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise $50,000 to manufacture and launch its Fusion and Cine lights. The Fusion is designed for the everyday consumer, and the Cine line is designed for professional cinema lighting and video production.

“We developed RagLite out of a need of our own," said Chad Soderholm, co-founder and CEO of RagLite." As film production veterans my co-founder and I found large and heavy lighting equipment to be painfully cumbersome, so we set out to make the most versatile, portable and practical light the world has ever seen.”

RagLites can be hung or mounted on almost any object and rolled up for easy storage. They range from $95 to $2,450, depending on the size and accessories included.

Contributors to the Indiegogo can also pledge $5 or more to support RagLite’s Love & Lite Foundation, a nonprofit organization designed to bring light to the poorest parts of the world, the company said. Up to 6 percent of all RagLite proceeds contributed during the campaign will be donated to the foundation.

“In creating RagLite, we realized we could do something even bigger – bring light to the world,” said Lori Allen, co-founder and managing partner of RagLite. “There are over 1.3 billion people living without electricity. We want to change that by establishing RagLite’s Love & Lite Foundation that will provide RagLites to those in need.”

The uses for the RagLite are almost endless. You could imagine the lights hung for mechanics, gardeners, makeup artists and even interior designers looking to better light a space. The Indiegogo campaign will run through Dec. 1.
