One of Chicago's Early Startup Success Stories Launches its First Pop-Up Store Today

Today, one of Chicago's early startup success stories - The Tie Bar - is opening up it first pop-up store at 918 West Armitage.

At the store, the popular e-commerce destination for men's accessories and, yes, ties, will be featuring its latest styles and spotlighting its new collaborations with Modern Family's Jesse Tyle Ferguson and Miami Heat Guard Dwyane Wade. The pop-up will be open for two months and will run from 11AM - 7PM Tuesday - Friday, 10AM - 7PM on Saturday, and 12PM - PM on Sunday.

Founded in '94, The Tie Bar disrupted a crowded, expensive retail market by focusing on making stylish ties for only $15.

"We really filled a blank space in the market when we launched. We offered a product that didn't exist – stylish natural fiber ties at $15 a pop," Tie Bar Co-Founder Greg Shugar said. "We were lucky enough to  have gained some celebrity fans early on and the media took notice as well. That's when the business really took off."

And the media continues to take notice; at least one Tie Bar item has appeared in every 2014 GQ and the company is consistently credited for predicting and driving trends in men's fashion.

In May, The Tie Bar moved its headquarters from Naperville to downtown Chicago, hiring additional employees in marketing and tech, bringing its total staff to 25. (This number does not include employees operating in their Austin, Texas warehouse). The company did $16 million in revenue in 2013 and is expected to grow by 40% this year.

Along with ties, the pop-up store will also feature bow ties, pocket squares, and socks.
