New Chicago Startup Launches Out of Beta Today to Make Moving Easier

Moving is a pain. Movers make it less of a pain. But finding movers is a pain. So, today, a Chicago startup has launched out of beta to - you guessed it - make finding movers less of a pain.

MovingCompanyReviews.com (MCR) is a new online platform that connects consumers with reliable moving companies. The startup uses technology and transparency to improve the moving experience, verifying every review on its site via a bill of lading (mover issued receipt) and displaying clearly whether movers have the required state and federal licenses.

“Our goal is to instill confidence in both the consumer and the mover with the authenticity of a verified MCR review,” said Shannon Cullins, MCR co-founder and VP.

The platform lists 7,000 movers and allows users to easily search by location and reviews. MCR also streamlines the process by using  pre-populated home date - including rooms, square footgae, etc. - to estimate a quote. And as an added bonus, users will receive a pizza on moving day for reviewing the experience.

"MCR works closely with the moving industry to address our challenges and to make it easier for consumers to distinguish the reputable movers from the bad ones," said Andy Newitt, of A-1 Moving & Storage.

MCR is also a byproduct of a larger Chicago company "tech-ing local." The startup was co-founded by Doug Breaker, CEO of HomeFinder.com - the online marketplace for connecting home buyers, sellers, and real estate agents - and is now a division of the latter operation. (Tech Local is Chicago Inno's term for when a local enterprise sources or supports a local startup, thus sustaining the health of the city's innovation economy).
