Box Score Games and its Apps for Live Sporting Events Wins 'Most Unique' at Vegas Competition

A Chicago-based company that creates interactive apps for fans built around live sporting events brought back some hardware recently during a startup competition in Las Vegas.

Box Score Games, an 1871 company, was named "Most Unique" at the CTIA Startup Lab during Vegas' Super Mobility Week. The company competed against 40 other startups from eight different countries during the two-day event, which also crowned three overall winners and three top investor picks. Box Score Games was also named as one of two "honorable mentions."

“We are beyond thrilled to win the award for the Most Unique Business at the CTIA Startup Lab,” Box Score Games Co-Founder Mike Lynch said in a news release. “We were honored to be nominated by 1871 to apply for the competition and even more proud to be able to represent the Chicago tech community by coming home with an award.   We are excited to see some of our hard work paying off and can't wait to continue building out the best mobile gaming platform for all sports fans.”

Box Score Games builds social apps--like Football Bingo--for people to compete against one another while watching the same live sporting event. With 80 percent of sports fans on their phone during live games, Box Score Games feels it has an opportunity to market to businesses like restaurants and bars, the company said. Box Score Games' apps allow companies to engage with their clients on their phone for up to three hours during a game, and it offers them data on the customers who use the app.

“1871 is pleased to congratulate Box Score Games on its win at the CTIA Startup Lab,” 1871 CEO Howard Tullman said. "Successful new companies like Box Score Games play a key role in fostering jobs and economic growth in the United States, and 1871 is proud to support these companies.“
