A Chicago Startup Partners With Second Sense to Give the Blind Better Access to Dietitians

Chicago startup On Demand Dietitian is partnering with non-profit Second Sense to bring its nutrition services to the blind.

On Demand Dietitian launched in June and provides 24-hour nutrition advice from a licensed dietitian by phone, text, or video chat. The company's nutrition experts are made available to answer important food and health questions at any time, whether you're in the grocery store isle or digging through the refrigerator at midnight.

The partnership with Second Sense, a non-profit founded in 1947 that offers services to people with vision loss, will allow On Demand Dietitian to extend its services to the people who need it most. The two companies will work together to make dietitians available to blind individuals over the phone, providing a much needed resource for people who may have financial or homebound restrictions, according to On Demand Dietitian.

"On Demand Dietitian is eliminating traditional barriers and providing unprecedented nutrition support," its website reads. "The On Demand Dietitian team empowers Second Sense’s clients to take control of their health through simplified accessibility to nutrition counseling."

On Demand Dietitian says it costs 40 percent less than traditional dietitians, and allows patients to book appointments over the phone or on the computer.
