Throwing a Last Minute July 4th Party? OpenShelf Delivers the Grill, Cooler and Food to Your Door

july-4

Throwing a July 4th party but don't have a grill, charcoal, ice or food? (Wow, you're a terrible party planner and you probably shouldn't be inviting people to your home.)

But don't fret. Chicago startup OpenShelf is here to save your ill-prepared ass. The company will delivery everything you need for your July 4th party, including a grill, cooler and food for up to 25 guests. Packages include:

  • A grill kit with a Grill Mark 18.5" grill, charcoal, charcoal lighter fluid, grill lighter, spatula and tongs for $40.
  • The grill kit plus a plastic cooler with ice for $50.
  • "Party in a Box," which includes the grill kit; hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, chips, drinks, and condiments to feed 25 people; and American flags and sparklers for $85. Add $10 more if you want the cooler and ice.

Items are also available individually. $20 for the grill. $15 for the cooler. $45 for the food. Eat the food, but everything else is a rental, which OpenShelf will pick up when you're done.

The OpenShelf team is made up of University of Chicago students and alumni, and they plan to make the company a one-stop-rental-shop for anything you need delivered to your home. Need a power drill to fix a broken chair? More speakers for your house party? Heavy duty cleaning equipment when you inevitably destroy your living room from said house party? OpenShelf will have you covered. The company is still currently building the product and expects to launch at the end of September. But the July 4th packages are available today.

So celebrate your independence this year by skipping the July 4th traffic and make other people run your errands for you.
