We reported last month that Zealous Good was eying a Dallas expansion in the near future. Then company made it official and announced last week that is is currently recruiting nonprofits in Big D and hopes to have a core group of organizations on board by the end of the month. From there, Zealous Good will begin reaching out into the community to encourage people to donate, according to the company's blog.
Launched in 2011, Zealous Good is an online portal that connects people donating items to people in need. The company has worked with more than 400 Chicago nonprofits and 4,000 donors, and it has matched over $1 million worth of goods to area charities.
From the Zealous Good blog:
Dallas is the 9th largest city in the US with 1.3 million residents. It has a wonderfully philanthropic community and lots of needs within it’s non-profit community. Additionally and importantly, it’s different than Chicago. The city of Dallas is less reliant on public transportation than Chicago. It’s climate and seasons are considerably different (Dallas didn’t have two polar vortexes this year!). We’ve had success in Chicago and we want to be successful in places that are different!
Zealous Good founder Brittany Graunke is also From Dallas, making the expansion to the south a logical choice. Grauke said last month that there has been demand from over 30 cities across the country for Zealous good, and the plan is to expand into a few cities each year.
"There's been no marketplace for nonprofits to find stuff that they need donated," she said. "You think of Craigslist ... where people can post their stuff, but there's no guarantee it's free. There's no aspect of a tax receipt you can receive for donating ... On the nonprofit side, we make it so much more simple than anything else out there. And for the donor, we make it so much more meaningful. You're adding real, true value to another organization."
