After signing on for around 62,000 square feet at the Terminal in West Humboldt Park last year, Chicago startup Numat Technologies has announced plans for further expansion.

In a move that will help strengthen the advanced materials startup's North American supply chain, Numat will add another manufacturing facility in Wisconsin.

The site will serve as the company's second U.S.-based, high-volume metal-organic frameworks (MOF) manufacturing facility and is expected to be operational in the second half of 2024.

Originally founded in Skokie, Numat began construction on its first industrial scale MOF manufacturing campus in Chicago in West Humboldt Part toward the end 2023. It is expected to be operational in the spring and will help accelerate the development of its MOF-based solutions.

Numat's newest investment in Wisconsin is expected to help increase the startup's manufacturing capacity as it looks for new defense, first responder and decarbonization applications. It will also enable end-to-end manufacturing for Numat.

The startup has raised $23.7 million to date, according to Crunchbase, including a $12.4 million Series B round in 2018.

A Northwestern spinout, backed by Clean Energy Trust, the B2B startup designs gas storage separation and purification systems, as well as advanced materials for electronics, health care, energy and other sectors. Its technology is designed to change the way industries around the world capture and separate hazardous chemicals, reducing the impact chemicals have on the environment.
