There were 15 Chicago companies named to this year's Technology Fast 500 ranking by Deloitte.
The 29th annual list ranks the fastest-growing North American companies in tech, media, telecommunications and life sciences, with software and fintech as two of Chicago's fastest-growing sectors in recent years.
Software and services companies dominated the list this year both overall and in Chicago. Of the 15 Chicago-area companies on this year's list, eight were software startups and three were in the fintech space.
There were also two energy and sustainability technology companies named to this year's list, including LanzaTech, which earlier this year was named to Time's 100 Most Influential Companies list.
Deloitte, the international professional services firm headquartered in London, forms the rankings based on the percentage of revenue growth from 2019 to 2022. The list features companies both large and small, public and private.
A dozen Chicago companies were named to the list in 2022 and six made it in 2021.
Some 85% of the companies listed nationally were backed by venture capital or private equity funding at some point in their history. The overall median growth rate of companies selected was 497%, with life sciences seeing the highest median revenue growth rate at 665%.
