In December 2020, FedEx completed its acquisition of ShopRunner, the Chicago-based e-commerce platform that connects online shoppers with companies and brands.

Now, almost two years later, it’s announcing the launch of a new mobile app.

Already, ShopRunner’s members get free two-day shipping, free returns, and member-exclusive discounts, and they can shop from more than 100 partner companies from a variety of industries.

The new app will look to streamline their shopping experiences, by providing a single destination for discovering, ordering, tracking, and returning products. It has a single mobile entryway, and each member’s feed is optimized by their browsing and purchase history, so they can both shop with preferred brands, and find new ones.

“ShopRunner is giving e-commerce the makeover it deserves through an approachable mobile app to help people overcome today’s frustrating and overwhelming online shopping experience,” said ShopRunner CEO Claude Russ, in a press release. “With simplicity at the center of ShopRunner, our goal is to unlock a more enjoyable way to shop while also making it easier for merchants to build loyalty with their customers.”

Since being acquired by FedEx for $228 million, the business has grown its member base, while also reaching new consumers and businesses.

According to the Chicago Business Journal, MBJ’s sister publication, ShopRunner was founded in 2010 as an e-commerce shipping alternative to Amazon Prime. Around the time FedEx purchased the platform, executives noted that it could give the company more data visibility into brands, and a stronger post-purchase consumer experience.

“With their order catalog and their data visibility into these brands, we can see upstream earlier,” said FedEx’s chief customer officer, Brie Carere, during an earnings call in December 2020. “This is an incredible advantage from a logistics optimization.'
