A number of Chicagoland-based companies made Inc. magazine’s 2022 ranking of the 5,000 fastest-growing private businesses in the U.S., known as the Inc. 5000, which was released this week.

Companies including Lyons, Illinois-based CDL 1000 and technology-driven logistics company TransLoop experienced massive three-year revenue growth — 56,135% and 20,267%, respectively.

The cutoff to appear in the Inc. 500 was 1,248% for 2022. For the broader Inc. 5000, the median growth rate was 230%, while the minimum growth to appear on the list was 80%.

Median growth from 2018–2021 for the 203 Chicago-metro based companies featured on the list was 223% with $15.3 billion in total revenue last year.

The number of Chicago-based companies dropped slightly in this year's rankings compared to last year's, when 213 Chicago-based companies were featured. Still, only New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., had more companies featured from their metro areas.

CDL 1000 and TransLoop, both logistics and transportation companies, headed an industry that was heavily featured on Chicago's list, contributing $2.1 billion of the more than $15 billion in total revenue.

Still, the Chicagoland companies added 34,137 jobs to the market, according to Inc., as each one has seen spectacular growth as of late.

There were 124 repeats in this year’s list out of Chicago while 31 were newly founded.

Some companies, like consumer product company Black Buffalo, No. 1,169 in the rankings with 557% three-year growth, saw explosive growth after new distribution deals, while others, like CoinFlip, No. 92 in the rankings, expanded into new regions.
