SMS Assist, a Chicago unicorn that provides property managers with maintenance tech, is moving its headquarters from Michigan Avenue to the Prudential Plaza as its company grows to more than 750 local employees.

SMS announced Monday that it has signed a 114,000 square-foot lease at 130 E. Randolph, otherwise known as One Two Pru. The four-floor space is the former home of the Chicago Tribune, which left the building earlier this year.

SMS, which has raised more than $255 million in funding from backers like Goldman Sachs and Pritzker Group Venture Capital at a $1 billion valuation, said it plans to move into the space early next year.

The new office will accommodate the company's more than 750 local employees, and will feature a rooftop deck, lounge, health club and cafe.

Founded in 1995, SMS Assist creates a maintenance tech platform that helps property managers maintain multiple buildings, track maintenance orders and streamline repairs. It services more than 20,000 residential and commercial buildings, including banks, restaurants and rental homes.

SMS is led by CEO Marc Shiffman, who was promoted to the top job in 2019 after serving as president and CFO.
