Unite Us, a New York-based tech startup valued at more than $1.6 billion, has scooped up a Chicago startup that helps people find health and wellness resources in their neighborhoods.
United Us announced Tuesday that it has acquired NowPow, a spin out from the University of Chicago that operates a community referral network to help users get access to nearby doctors, nurses, social workers and case workers. Users can get help accessing food, housing assistance, counseling, support groups and more.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The company, founded by UChicago gynecologist Stacy Lindau, launched in 2015 and has grown to 140 employees. The company has been mostly bootstrapped to date, raising just $4 million in loans and friends and family funding. NowPow says it has facilitated millions of referrals to date.
NowPow, led today by CEO Rachel Kohler, will remain independent until the end of 2021 before being integrated into the Unite Us brand.
Unite Us, founded in 2013, operates coordinated care networks of health and social service providers, working with health care organizations like Kaiser Permanente, CyncHealth, Cleveland Clinic and United Way. It raised $150 million last March and in August acquired Carrot Health, a data analytics platform.
