A Chicago tech firm that owns a suite of outdoor adventure apps has added another travel startup to its portfolio.

Chicago-based Togo Group announced Wednesday it acquired Campendium, a crowd-sourced site and mobile app that allows users to search and give feedback on thousands of camping sites across the U.S., Canada and Mexico. It specializes in helping RV travelers find places to camp.

Terms of the deal weren't disclosed. Campendium will continue to operate as a stand-alone brand, the company said, and co-founders Brian Easterling and Leigh Wetzel will remain with the business.

Easterling and Wetzel founded Las Vegas-based Campendium in 2015. Its platform includes information on 32,000 public and private camping locations, and the company said its website traffic has increased 59% in the last 12 months as the Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in people taking more outdoor camping trips. Its net-new users have increased 58.5% in the same time period, the company said.

Campendium joins Togo's family of digital outdoor brands, which includes Roadtrippers, a popular Cincinnati-based app that helps people plan road trips. It also owns Togo RV, an organizational app for travelers to better plan their RV experience, and RVillage, a social media network for RV owners.
