Odeza, a Chicago-based health care communication startup, has been acquired by Cincinnati health care revenue management company Ensemble Health Partners.
Odeza, founded in 2016 by Dan Melillo, Dan Caballero and Yeming Rankin, makes an artificial intelligence-powered communication platform for the health care industry. The all-in-one digital consumer communication platform integrates with electronic health record platforms to unify, simplify and automate patient needs, like scheduling appointments and tracking payments.
“It was honestly born out of my own frustration with how long it was taking to see a dermatologist,” Melillo said.
Odeza has 10 clients, including Centura Health, ProHealth Care and Atrium Health.
Jim Gaffney, the chief strategy officer at Ensemble, said Ensemble acquired Odeza to expand its digital offerings for patients. Ensemble partners with more than 380 hospitals and 8,000 health care providers across the country.
“From Ensemble’s perspective, we definitely see the vision of what Dan and the Odeza team are tying to do,” Gaffney said. “We’re always looking for ways to reduce any type of friction for either patients or health care providers."
Gaffney, nor Melillo, would disclose how much Ensemble was purchasing Odeza for, but they confirmed that all 30 of Odeza’s employees will remain with the combined company. To date, Odeza has raised $1.7 million in venture capital financing.
Rankin, Odeza’s other founder, has stepped away from day-to-day duties but serves as a board member and investor. Rankin is also the co-founder of Rankin Family Ventures, an angel group she runs with her husband, Aaron Rankin, the co-founder and chief technology officer at Sprout Social.
