A Chicago startup that's created a self-sanitizing diaper changing table is getting a boost from the Chicago White Sox just ahead of opening day.
Pluie, a startup that makes diaper-changing tables that can clean themselves using UV-C light, has installed a self-sanitizing station inside Guaranteed Rate Field. Pluie is located in the White Sox Mothers’ Nursing Room near Section 352. The room aims to provide a relaxing space for breastfeeding women, including comfortable chairs, electrical outlets for pumps, and a television to watch the game, along with the Pluie.
It's among the first installations for Pluie, which just launched last October. The startup says it's continuing to roll its product out to local restaurants, parks, retail, health care and education facilities, before expanding nationally.
Pluie is led by Addie Gundry, a former chef who has appeared multiple times on The Food Network and has written for Martha Stewart Living, and Brittany Hizer, the former president of fishing boat company Crestliner. Using a patented UV-C light system that's turned on when the table is folded and not in use, Pluie says it can kill 99.9% of germs, bacteria and viruses. It also features a leak-proof cushion and a retractable security strap.
The startup is bringing a high-tech twist to the traditional public changing table, and fills an even more pressing need in the Covid-19 era as public facilities look to provide more sanitary spaces for their guests.
