Walgreens Boots Alliance said it's made a deal with Uber Technologies Inc., with the San Francisco ride-sharing company delivering free rides to people getting Covid-19 vaccinations at Walgreens locations.
Deerfield-based Walgreens (Nasdaq: WBA) said the pilot transportation program will begin in cities including Chicago, Atlanta, Houston, and El Paso.
“By combining Walgreens’ deep experience in community care with Uber’s transportation technology and logistics expertise, we will take bold action to address vaccine access and hesitancy among those hit hardest by the pandemic,” said John Standley, president, Walgreens, in a statement.
Walgreens said a ride to the vaccination can be booked when a customer makes a Covid-19 vaccination appointment.
In December, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said Uber is committing 10 million free or discounted rides to help make sure that transportation is not a barrier to getting the vaccine.
Last week, the Chicago Business Journal reported that Walgreens was selected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to administer Covid-19 vaccinations in 15 states and jurisdictions under a federal program.
