Paro, the Chicago startup that connects companies to finance professionals, said it's named a new chief operating officer.

Anita Samojednik, former president of Chicago-based Groupon (Nasdaq: GRPN) International, has been named COO.

The announcement comes a year after Paro raised $10 million in a round led by Silicon Valley VC firm Sierra Ventures. In 2018, 5-year-old Paro raised $5 million in a round led by Revolution, a VC firm led by AOL co-founder Steve Case.

Prior to her years at Groupon, Samojednik spent four years at online career management platform Ladders as vice president of operations. She also held various positions at telecom company Vonage, and also serves as a member of the advisory board at the Columbia Business School, Deming Center.

“We knew from the beginning that Anita would be the perfect fit to join our team as COO. Her experience running a global, double-sided marketplace and proven track record of pushing some of the largest organizations in their industry to the top of their game made us sure she was the right leader to take Paro to the next level," said Paro CEO Michael Burdick, in a statement.
