HealthChampion, a Chicago startup that wants to make it easier to view and manage personal medical records, is acquiring another local tech company that specializes in custom software development.

Founded last year, HealthChampion is purchasing alligatortek for an undisclosed amount, the companies announced Tuesday. As part of the acquisition, alligatortek CEO Sid Bala is joining HealthChampion's board of directors, and will oversee strategy and help drive further innovation across the organization.

HealthChampion, launched by serial entrepreneur Terrence Ryan, makes an app that automatically gathers users’ health data and stores their medical records. The app can also integrate health data from more than 400 devices and Apple Health.

Alligatortek makes customized enterprise applications for clients in manufacturing, logistics and other industries.

HealthChampion said acquiring alligatortek will help it strengthen its ability to rapidly deploy expanded remote care and data analytics to consumers and B2B partners. Combined, the companies will employ more than 80 people.

"Over the last two decades, alligatortek has built a leading development team," Ryan said in a statement. "This acquisition will bolster our product development efforts, enabling us to accelerate data-driven health insights for consumers and businesses in response to strong market demand for our offering."

In December, HealthChampion moved into a new 8,000-square-foot office at 125 S. Wacker Drive in the Loop. The startup also has employees in Milwaukee, where the startup opened a small office last year. To date, HealthChampion has raised $4 million.
