Twenty-two Chicago startup companies were listed on Forbes’ annual list of “America’s Best Startup Employers,” with Cameo coming in at No. 19—the highest ranked Illinois company on the list.

The list, published Tuesday, is compiled based on the evaluation of 2,500 American businesses with at least 50 employees. The list included 500 companies, which were ranked based on employer reputation, employee satisfaction and growth.

Allbirds, a San Francisco-based shoe retailer, came in at No. 1 on the list, followed by banking startup Chime (2) and credit card company Petal (3).

Besides Cameo, other local companies on the list include MoLoSolutions (63), VeoRide (110), Kin (167) and Grassroots Cannabis (291).

Cameo, which has been recognized by many national news outlets for its novel product and workplace, was ranked No. 49 on Fast Company’s list of “The World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies,” which was also published Tuesday.

Founded in Chicago in 2017, Cameo is an online marketplace for finding and requesting personalized, pre-recorded messages from celebrities, social media influencers, professional athletes and other high-profile people. The startup is backed with more $65 million in venture capital funding, and counts Lindsay Lohan, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Charlie Sheen among its talent.
