Deerfield-based Walgreens is expanding a partnership with Postmates to provide consumers on-demand delivery of pharmacy items.
Beginning Monday, shoppers in 13 cities, including Chicago, can order items from Walgreens through Postmates. Other cities include Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Portland, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Charlotte, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and Houston.
The expansion comes six months after the service launched in New York. Shoppers can order select over-the-counter medications, food and household items from more than 1,700 Walgreens locations.
Last year, Walgreens and Wing, a drone startup owned by Alphabet, announced a partnership in which they would offer drone delivery to residents in Christiansburg, VA.
"We are thrilled to expand delivery service from Walgreens stores to more cities,” said Craig Whitmer, the vice president of merchant business development at Postmates, in a statement. "The drug store/convenience category is one that customers turn to for convenience on the Postmates platform."
Postmates also delivers for Chicago-based McDonald’s. Meanwhile, Walgreens competitor CVS Pharmacy delivers items through Shipt, which it has worked with since 2018. Shipt deliveries are available from 6,000 CVS locations nationwide.
