Motorola’s new foldable Razr is finally hitting the market next month.
The Chicago-based phone company said the phone will be available Feb. 6, with preorders starting Jan. 26, exactly a month since the phone’s original preorder date. Motorola pushed the preorder date back due to high demand.
Preorders will be available exclusively at Walmart, Verizon and on Motorola’s website, and the phone will retail for $1,499.
The new Razr, which was first announced last year, is Motorola’s first foldable smart flip phone. It will feature a full-sized 6.2-inch OLED display with a “zero gap hinge” when it’s closed. The phone has a 16MP camera that comes with a night vision mode and built-in artificial intelligence to capture professional-quality photos. And Motorola says the phone’s battery lasts for up to 24 hours.
Crain’s reports that 90 percent of the development for the Razr was done in Chicago, where the tech company previously had thousands of employees. The Windy City is still the company's headquarters, but the local staff has shrunk significantly.
Motorola isn’t the only phone company getting into the foldable smartphone category, though. Samsung is expected to reveal a clamshell-style folding smartphone at its “Unpacked” event on Feb. 11
