To attract younger talent and provide some employees with a shorter commute, Downers Grove-based cloud and IT services company Ensono opened a downtown Chicago office this summer.

The new office at 70 W. Madison St. can accommodate up to 50 employees, some of which will be new hires and others that are transferring to the office from Ensono’s suburban headquarters, said CEO Jeff VonDeylen in an interview.

Ensono, founded in 2015, currently employs 2,200 people globally across its offices in the U.S., Europe and India. A year ago, Ensono’s headcount was 670.

The company has about 150 clients who pay for its public cloud and mainframe service, including Travel Lodge and Sonoco. Ensono says it is expecting 2019 revenue to surpass $600 million.

VonDeylen said Ensono is opening the office to better recruit and retain young talent that is increasingly opting to live in the city as opposed to Chicago’s suburbs. Some of the employees relocating from Downers Grove to the new office include members of Ensono’s executive team, like its CFO, CMO and president. VonDeylen said he also plans to work out of the new office at least a few times per month.

“We’ve always wanted to get more connected to the city,” VonDeylen said. “While Downers Grove isn’t all that far from Chicago, for some of our younger people, it felt to them like we were asking them to go to Kansas.”

Employees began working out of the new office at the beginning of August, VonDeylen said, adding that the office features an open floorplan with no offices, only conference rooms.

“We’re really proud of the clients we’ve added and the growth we’ve added, and the push toward innovation,” VonDeylen said. “We think the addition of this office just helps us accelerate that mission and vision.”
