Reddit, the popular social networking company that first opened up shop in Chicago in April 2018, is expanding its Windy City presence with an office in the Merchandise Mart.
Reddit announced Thursday that it's opening a dedicated office in the Merch Mart, sharing space with its parent company Condé Nast. The space will be able to hold around 25 Chicago Redditors and will serve as a hub for its Midwest business. Reddit currently has 15 Chicago employees, up from a handful of sales folks the company began with when it launched in a Chicago WeWork office last year.
The office is mostly sales focused, with positions including brand partners, account managers, and brand strategists.
"A year after launching in Chicago, Reddit’s first office space in the Merchandise Mart is symbolic of our progress and ambition for the region," Zubair Jandali, Reddit's VP of Brand Partnerships, said in a statement. "In 2018 and 2019, we’ve grown in just about every way---from new office locations and leadership to a massive redesign and brand new ad products---and have delivered significant value to users and advertisers alike."
Reddit's move follows fellow Silicon Valley startup Stripe's announcement last week that it has opened a Chicago office, which will hold engineering and sales roles. Other well-known tech giants---including Salesforce, Google, Facebook and Uber---are also significantly growing their Chicago offices.
