Scanalytics, a Milwaukee-based startup making floor sensor technology to track and collect data on human movement patterns, is opening a second office in Chicago as it expands its sales operations.
The tech company, co-founded in 2013 by CEO Joe Scanlin, plans to hire about 20 people in the new office, which is slated to officially open in July in the city’s South Loop neighborhood.
Scanlin said the firm’s R&D and technical workforce will remain in Wisconsin, where the company currently employs 20 full-time and part-time people. In Chicago, Scanalytics will mainly hire for sales positions, and Scanlin will split his time between the two.
“Chicago makes sense for us given the global reach that we can have being out of that major hub,” Scanlin said. “Chicago is really exciting because we can tap into a broader ecosystem for our partnerships and our operating capacity.”
The announcement of the new Chicago office also coincides with Scanalytics closing a deal with McCormick Place, the city’s 2.6 million-square-foot convention center. Scanlaytics’ tech allows McCormick to precisely measure usage, movement, interaction and visitor behavior so that exhibitors can improve their floorplan setups.
“Having [McCormick] so close to us has been great,” Scanlin said. “That building has a lot of opportunity to use the data that our platform is generating.”
Scanalytics has served more than 100 customers in industries ranging from retail, commercial real estate and healthcare. Clients include Microsoft and Intel.
The company, which participated in the startup accelerator program gener8tor in 2013, has raised $4.3 million in venture capital funding to date.
