Chicago meal delivery company Home Chef is hitting the open road with a new food truck as it looks to bring its meal kits to hundreds of new Kroger stores.
Home Chef is embarking on a six-month road trip, where its food truck will travel to more than 80 Kroger stores in 20 cities. Home Chef, which was bought by Kroger last year for $200 million, is in the midst of a national expansion with the Cincinnati-based grocery chain to bring its meals to more than 700 Kroger-family stores.
The national food truck tour kicks off this Saturday at Mariano’s in west suburban Wheaton. Julianna Zobrist, a singer, author and wife of Chicago Cub Ben Zobrist, will be on-hand to meet shoppers and show how she uses Home Chef meals for her family.
At the food truck, shoppers will be able to taste some of Home Chef's meals, play games, and enter to win prizes, which include Home Chef meal kits and Cubs tickets.
Founded in 2013, Home Chef has built one of the largest meal kit delivery services in the country. It raised raised $57 million in venture capital before getting acquired last year, and did $250 million in revenue in 2018. Home Chef's acquisition could be worth up to $700 million if Home Chef hits certain growth milestones over the next five years, Kroger said.
